Hans Spiegel is one of those German artists, who received little attention for a long time and has been rediscovered only in the last ten years. Because nearly his whole early work has been destroyed during a bombardment in the Second World War, painting from this time a very rare.

Like his contemporaries Hans Spiegel integrated formal elements from the cubism in his works. In his paintings organic, round shapes and geometric areas are mixed with human figures. His portraits and still lifes have an enigmatic charisma and often suggest a deeper meaning.
